Things to do in the local area
Doolin is small in size, but big in charm and sights. It’s a popular stop-off point on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, with people setting off to explore the Cliffs of Moher and the beautiful Aran Islands.
The Ocean Crest Apartments are less than 10 minutes’ walk from Doolin, so you’ve got plenty of options for eating and drinking out in Ireland’s so-called ‘traditional music capital’. You’re also just a short drive from the coast and its panoramic walks, as well as the famous Cliffs of Moher.
- Walk along the coast between Doolin and Liscannor – this coastal stroll stretches on for 18km. If you’re short on time, you can just walk the 8km to the Cliffs of Moher.
- Step inside Doolin Cave – home to the biggest free-hanging stalactite in the northern hemisphere at 7.3 metres long.
- Admire the grandeur of Doonagore Castle – it’s actually a private holiday home, but you can still admire its 16th-century exterior from afar.
- Try surfing on Lahinch Beach – if the sun’s shining, give surfing a go. There’s a surf school here, owned by former Irish champion and pro surfer John McCarthy.
- Cruise past the Cliffs of Moher – see the famous cliffs by boat. En route, keep your eyes peeled for puffins and the famous cave from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
- Catch a ferry to the Aran Islands – take a daytrip to the smallest island, which is home to only 250 residents, a castle and a shipwreck on the beach.
- Listen to traditional Irish music at any of the 4 local Pubs – while in Doolin, you can’t miss a trip to our pubs which host live music every night.
Visit Doolin’s official website for more on things to do in and around the area.
